1400s – Corsets are worn by wealthy Europeans
1500s-1800s – Wearing corsets becomes widespread among “upper classes” and is seen as a symbol of position, rank, and wealth.
1914 – The first bra patent is awarded to a New York socialite.
1920s – Flappers make boyish silhouettes popular, and thin elastic girdles replace the corset. Girdles are no longer a status symbol and are worn every day.
1950s – The hourglass figure is in. Women begin wearing the all-in-one corselet; a bra/girdle/garter combo.
1967 – Playtex introduces its 18 Hour Girdle, which is supposed to be comfy enough to wear all day.

1960s – Bye-bye bras and girdles! Feminists denounce traditional lingerie.
1964 – The push-up Wonderbra is developed (its popularity peaks in the 1990s).
1990 – Madonna popularizes wearing corsets and other underwear as outerwear.
2000 – Spanx shapewear debuts. Sales go through the roof after Oprah places the Footless Body-Shaping pantyhose on her “favorite things” list.
2010 – Spanx gets lost of competition; shapewear sales top out at more than $800 million.

Let’s face it: girls and guys have very different takes on what makes lingerie sexy. Girls tend to gravitate towards white, lacy ensembles in the bedroom, while guys often choose anything red, black or, umm… stringy. Why not surprise your gal with something you’ll both love? Bustiers and corsets look very much alike and perform the same basic function as undergarments. Both are formfitting, strapless tops that most often fasten with adjustable ties at the back. Bustiers may be fitted with straps at the waistline to attach garters, and corsets extend beyond the waistline which makes them a more slimming option for cinching the waist.
Garters that hook onto a bustier or corset usually comprise of simple adjustable straps that hook onto stockings. Stand-alone garter belts resemble a very short skirt, or narrow band that fits around the hips and sports the same adjustable straps to attach to stockings.
Our Top Tip: garter belts are a great compliment to a bra and panty set. Although she may not wear it on a day-to-day basis, she will reserve the garter belt for special occasions, or when she is feeling particularly sexy!
Whereas a chemise and camisole are often worn day-to-day, teddies and baby dolls are more likely to be saved for the bedroom.
A chemise is a short under-dress or slip, and a camisole is a short-fitted top with thin straps, and offers little.
A teddy is a sexy one-piece, similar to a bodysuit, and a baby doll is a short gown usually fitted around the bust and flared to the hip. Baby dolls are often sold with matching panties.
